Bob Kaehler’s Story
When: April 5th – June 3rd, 2010 – (18 to 22 sessions)
We will be meeting 3 times per week. We will run practice during the week. In general we will meet on Mondays, Wednesdays, and either Thursday or Friday any changes to practice days (M, W, Th/F) will be announced the week previous.
Where: Core Creek Park, Langhorne, PA
We are currently rowing out of the Bucks County Rowing Association Trailer and will at some point be moving into the new boathouse facility.
Time Commitment: Session will run from 3:15 to 5:00 pm (we can adjust start time based on when school finishes and when athletes can arrive). Athletes are expected to be on time and picked up right after practice.
What to expect: Practice will be held on the water unless conditions are not safe to row (lightening or heavy rain/flooding). If that happens we will reschedule practice to the next available day or if possible we will use the ergometers indoors. Each athlete will need to wear rowing shorts or biking shorts to practice. You must bring at least 32 oz. of drinking water to practice each day as there is no running water. Porta-Johns are available in the park. Hats are suggested as we move closer to summer.
Athlete’s requirements:
Each athlete will need to pass a 100yd swim test which is witnessed and signed by a local swim club. Parents must sign the US Rowing Waiver (provided), and participants must become members ($45/yr) of US Rowing. This is a true team sport we expect all athletes to show up for all sessions unless they are sick, or have an excused absence. If an athlete has more than two excused absences he/she may not be permitted to continue.
BCRA Launch/Dues:
Practices will be run by Coach Kaehler unless otherwise noted. The launch will have (4-8) US Coast Guard approved life preservers on board depending upon how many athletes are on the water.
Athletes will not have to join the BCRA for this experienced rowers camp. If participant choose to continue with rowing at BCRA beyond this they will need to become members.
Program:
This Learn to row program is limited to 8 athletes for the spring 2010 camp for experienced rowers. Depending upon how things develop we will probably do some intra-squad racing towards the end of the season, and we may also be able to enter a race as BCRA. If we do race there will be additional charges associated with that.
We will offer competitive rowing this coming fall of 2010. All novice rowers must go through the Learn to Row program before being allowed to participate on the competitive team.
Cost: $525 per athlete which is payable to “Coach Kaehler, LLC”.
